Economic opportunity is crime prevention. Mickell believes the path to a safer, stronger Shelby County is lined with good jobs, smart growth, and equitable access to training. He’ll bring a business-minded approach to county government without losing sight of the people.
- A New Jail, A New Economy. The construction of a modern correctional facility at the Penal Farm site will not only improve public safety, but create jobs and economic growth. The redevelopment of 201 Poplar will open new possibilities for downtown revitalization and tax revenue.
- Workforce Training that Reduces Recidivism. Mickell will fight for state policy changes that remove bureaucratic barriers (like excessive paperwork) so more residents—including returning citizens—can access job training.
- Mandatory Workforce Programs for Repeat Offenders. To break the cycle of reoffending, Mickell supports mandated job training or rehabilitative programs for those arrested more than once—offering structure and a second chance instead of endless incarceration.
- Incentives that Lift Up Local Talent. Mickell will reward businesses that hire from underserved zip codes, especially those working with returning citizens, and push for contracting reforms to expand access for small and locally-owned businesses.
- Smart Tech, Green Growth. Mickell supports attracting industries like data centers and tech companies but wants environmentally sound oversight through county legislation that protects neighborhoods while growing the economy.
